Polar Bear to visit Mount Allison for Convocation
2011-05-12 09:51:51
Mount Allison University students, faculty, and staff will welcome guests from around the globe for this year’s Convocation ceremonies, including a friendly, little polar bear. Ursula the Polar Bear, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC)’s mascot will be making a stop on campus during Convocation on May 16 as part of a cross-country tour to highlight Canadian universities and celebrate the Association’s 100th anniversary.
Ursula, who is about a foot tall, began her cross-Canada tour this month and will be on the road until the end of October when the AUCC holds its annual meeting of University Presidents. She is visiting to bring awareness of the variety and quality of higher education available in Canada, and Mount Allison is thrilled to host her on one of the most exciting days of the year.
On Monday, Ursula will be traveling around Mount Allison’s campus accompanied by fourth-year student Geoff Campbell, communications assistant in the marketing and communications office. Please welcome Ursula with some Mount Allison spirit by posing for photos and smiling for video taken of her throughout the day. We hope her presence will help show the rest of the country what Mount Allison looks like at its best.
Ursula’s cross-Canada tour is being documented on her very own web site — www.ursulaontour.ca and you can follow her @ursula_aucc on Twitter, and like her Facebook Page. You can also read Geoff’s blog post about her Mount Allison visit.
